YOUTH J.O.A.D. PROGRAM

(Junior Olympic Archery Development)



JOAD Information

JOAD stands for Junior Olympic Archery Development, a program that provides archery instruction and competition for young archers across the U.S.A., and in foreign countries. The JOAD program is part of the National Archery Association (NAA), a non-profit corporation dedicated to promoting the sport of archery in the United States. The NAA is the national governing body for archery in the U.S and is responsible for the U.S. Olympic Archery Team.

The Huntsville Youth Archery JOAD program is open to all young people from 9 to 18 years of age. The purpose is to introduce young people to the sport of archery, teach them safe shooting skills, improve shooting ability and Have Fun! The program is run by NAA-Certified instructors and coaches. Through the JOAD Olympian Awards program, young archers can earn incentive awards as they develop and improve their skills. As scores improve, the archers advance up through the ranks of Yeoman, Junior Bowman, Bowman, Junior Archer, Archer, Master Archer, Expert Archer, Olympian and Gold Olympian. The 1996 Olympic double-Gold Medalist is a product of the JOAD program.

 



General Information

WhenSaturday mornings

Outdoors (spring thru fall): 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon (all archers)

Indoors (winter): Last name begins with letters A-G 9:00 am – 11:00 am*

                           Last name begins with letters H-Z 11:30 am – 1:30 pm*

* Please try to make your designated time, however if you find it impossible to make your designated time you may participate during the other session. See coach for exceptions.

Equipment – Club equipment is available for use during class sessions. Members are welcome to bring their own equipment. Compound, recurve and long bows are welcome.

Coaches – National Archery Association certified instructors and coaches.

Cost – Class sessions are $5.00 each (pay only for the classes you attend). We invite you to participate in a few sessions before joining the club. Annual club membership is $20.00 with price breaks for additional family members enrolled in the youth or adult program. Ask about benefits in joining the club.

NAA Awards – Through the National Archery Association (NAA) incentive awards can be earned as scores improve. To receive the awards past the Bowman level you must be a member of the NAA. However, NAA membership is not required to participate in the Huntsville Archery Club’s youth or adult program. NAA membership application forms are availably at Custom Archery Center or visit the NAA website at www.usarchery.org

Adult Program – This is a similar program for anyone 18 years of age or older and is held on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 pm.

 



JOAD Host Family Program

All families involved with the JOAD program are encouraged to participate in the Host Family program. The goals of this program are to ensure that prior to the event time, all ranges, the host site and necessary equipment will be ready, without interference to the host site, facility or staff/personnel.
Also they will ensure that the host site or facility is returned, as found, after the scheduled JOAD events.
The Host Family’s arrival and departure at the site or event should be as follows:
          60 min. before and after all outdoor events.
